The following is a quote from BNPB regarding the Temporary Data on Sunda Strait Tsunami Victims (Eruption of Mount Krakatoa) which was adopted on December 24, 2018 at 09:16 WIB.
Emergency handling continues
in areas affected by the tsunami in the Sunda Strait. Current emergency
handling priorities are coordination, evacuation, search and rescue of victims,
health services, handling refugees, repairing emergency damaged infrastructure.
Temporary data collected by
BNPB Command Post until 24/12/2018 at 07.00 WIB, recorded 281 people died,
1,016 people were injured, 57 people were missing and 11,687 people were
displaced. Physical damage included 611 damaged housing units, 69 hotel and
villa units damaged, 60 shops damaged, and 420 damaged vessels.
These casualties and damage
were found in 5 affected districts, namely Pandeglang, Serang, South Lampung,
Tanggamus and Pesawaran. So the areas in Banten and Lampung provinces are in
the Sunda Strait. Coastal areas in Pandeglang Regency are the areas with the
highest number of victims and damage compared to other regions.
Possible data on victims and
damage will still increase considering that not all have been successfully
recorded. Data collection is still being carried out by officers.
Of the 281 people died,
1,016 people were injured, 57 people disappeared in 5 affected districts. In
Pandeglang District, 207 people died, 755 people were injured, 7 people were
missing, and 11,453 people were displaced. Physical damage included 611 damaged
housing units, 69 damaged hotels and villas, 60 food stalls and shops damaged,
350 boats / ships damaged, and 71 damaged vehicles.
The coastal areas along the
coast from Carita Beach, Panimbang Beach, Teluk Lada Beach, Sumur Beach, and
Tanjung Lesung Beach were severely damaged. 10 sub-districts in Pandeglang were
affected by the tsunami. Most victims were found at Mutiara Hotel Carita
Cottage, Tanjung Lesung Hotel and Sambolo Village.
In Serang District, 12
people died, 30 people were injured and 28 people were missing. Physical damage
is still under data collection.
While in South Lampung
Regency there were 60 people died, 230 people were injured, 22 people were
missing and 30 houses were severely damaged. In Tanggamus Regency, 1 person
died, 4 houses were severely damaged, and 70 boats were damaged. While in
Pesawaran District, 1 person died, 1 person was injured, 231 people were
displaced, 134 houses were damaged and 14 boats were damaged.
Thousands of joint personnel
from the TNI, Polri, BNPB, Basarnas, Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of
Social Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources,
BPBD, SKPD, NGOs, volunteers and the community and others are handling
emergencies. The Regional Head leads the emergency response in his area.
